Rice University
About
The Rice Architecture Summer Immersion Program is designed to introduce high school students to the fundamental principles of architecture and design through an intensive, hands-on workshop environment. Its mission is to provide Houston-area students—particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds—with the tools and mentorship needed to pursue architecture at the collegiate level. During the twelve-day residential session, participants engage in two- and three-dimensional design exercises using various media to test conceptual ideas. A core component of the program is the creation of original work that students can incorporate into a professional design portfolio, which is a critical requirement for architecture school admissions. Beyond studio work, students benefit from direct interaction with Rice University faculty, current undergraduate architecture students, and practicing professionals in the field. The program also offers a unique "college life" experience, as participants live in Rice residential dorms and receive instruction on the college application process.
