Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes what information Uni ("Uni", "we", "us") collects, how we use it, with whom we share it, and the rights available to you. It applies to unispike.app and all related products and services (the "Services").

Effective August 19, 2026.

Uni is a college application platform intended for high school students, and we recognize that many of our users are minors. We do not sell or share personal information, we do not use your work to train artificial intelligence models, and you may request deletion of your data at any time.

Information we collect

Information you provide:

  • Name and email address
  • Location, at the level of country, state, city, and ZIP or postal code. We do not collect street addresses
  • Grade level and intended major
  • Academic information, including GPA, course grades, class rank, and standardized test scores
  • Content you create, including essays, drafts, activities, awards, and messages to Uni AI
  • Documents you upload, such as a resume or transcript, so that their contents can be read and used to populate your profile
  • Optional background context, such as first-generation, low-income, legacy, or recruited-athlete status. Providing this is entirely optional and is used to make feedback more relevant
  • The contents of any support request you submit

Information collected automatically:

  • Usage data, including pages visited, features used, and time spent
  • Device and connection data, including IP address, browser, and device type

Information we do not collect: telephone numbers, street addresses, payment card numbers (which are transmitted directly to our payment processor), and contacts from any third-party service.

Information we no longer collect. The Services previously requested gender, race and ethnicity, and tribal affiliation. These questions have been removed and we no longer request or use this information. Providing it was always optional. Certain older accounts may still contain values entered at the time. We do not use them for any purpose, and you may request erasure by emailing support@unispike.app. We retain no historical copies, so erasure is permanent.

How we use information

We use personal information to operate your account and the features you use; to generate essay feedback, evaluations, recommendations, and chat responses; to process payments; to send service communications regarding your account, security, and purchases; to respond to support requests; to maintain the security of the Services and detect abuse; to understand feature usage in aggregated form that does not identify you; and to comply with legal obligations.

Marketing email is sent only where you have opted in, and you may withdraw that consent at any time in your settings. Service communications are separate and are not marketing.

Artificial intelligence

AI features within the Services are provided by OpenAI, Anthropic, and AI or Not, which produces the AI-writing detection score. We identify them by name because you are entitled to know who processes your writing.

We transmit your prompts, the essays and drafts you submit for review, and sufficient profile context to make responses relevant. Where you import a resume or transcript, the file itself is transmitted to OpenAI so that its contents can be extracted. We request deletion of the file once processing is complete and do not retain it ourselves; only the extracted information is stored in your account.

We commit to the following:

  • Your content is never used to train artificial intelligence models, by us or by our providers
  • For Uni AI chat, we instruct OpenAI not to retain conversation content on their systems
  • We transmit only the information a feature requires to produce the requested result

Our providers may retain limited data briefly for safety monitoring in accordance with their own published policies.

AI memory and personalization

To provide assistance specific to your application rather than generic guidance, the Services construct a working summary of your profile from information you have entered. Separately, Uni AI may infer and store short notes about you based on your conversations, such as which activity is most significant to you, and use them to inform later responses. These notes are inferred rather than copied from your messages.

You control this information. Within Uni AI you may view every stored note, edit it, add your own, or delete any note permanently. Deleting your account deletes all of them.

None of this information is used for advertising, and we do not display advertising. Scores and admissions-chance indicators are planning tools; they are never disclosed to any institution and produce no legal or similarly significant effect.

Disclosure to service providers

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising purposes.

We rely on a limited number of service providers to operate the Services, and disclose only what each requires:

Purpose Information disclosed
AI processing (OpenAI, Anthropic, AI or Not) Prompts, essays, uploaded documents, and profile context
Hosting and infrastructure Account data and content, and basic traffic data
Payment processing Email address and billing details. Card numbers are transmitted directly and never reach us
Email delivery Email address and name
Scheduling and video conferencing Email address, only where you book a counseling session

Certain pages load fonts and map data from external networks, which receive your IP address as a consequence of your browser requesting a file.

We may also disclose information where required by law, where necessary to protect the rights or safety of our users or of Uni, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. In the event of such a transaction, we will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different policy.

Disclosure you initiate

You may create a share link for an essay or spike chart. Any person holding that link may view the shared material without signing in. Links are unlisted and we instruct search engines not to index them, but any recipient may forward a link. You may disable a link at any time in your settings, which prevents further access.

Where you link a counselor to your account, that counselor can view the application information you have entered. You may unlink them at any time.

Information from individuals without an account

We receive limited information from individuals who do not hold a Uni account, including any person commenting on a share link, any person using our support form, and contact details submitted with an activity suggestion. We use this information solely to provide the service for which it was submitted. The rights described below apply equally, and we will delete such information on request.

Retention

Category Retention period
Account and content Duration of the account
Inactive accounts Up to 3 years following last sign-in
Following a deletion request Erased within 30 days
Support correspondence 3 years
Payment and transaction records 7 years, as required by tax law
Security and access logs 1 year
Backups Cycled out within 90 days

Certain usage records are retained after deletion with all identifying links removed, such that they no longer identify you.

Your rights

Regardless of where you reside, you may request that we:

  • Provide access to the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete your data and close your account
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent to marketing email
  • Object to or restrict our processing

We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

To exercise any right, email support@unispike.app or use the form at /support. We respond within 30 days and will notify you if additional time is required. We may need to verify your identity before acting.

We may retain limited information following a deletion request where required by law, such as transaction records, or where necessary to resolve a dispute.

Minors

You must be at least 13 years of age to use the Services. If you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian must accept our Terms on your behalf.

For users aged 13 to 17, we do not sell or share personal information, do not use it for advertising, and do not construct profiles for any purpose unrelated to college application assistance.

Parents and legal guardians may email support@unispike.app to review the information we hold about their child, request its correction, or request its deletion and closure of the account. We may need to verify the relationship before acting.

European Union and United Kingdom users

We rely on the following legal bases: performance of our contract with you, to operate your account and the features you use; legitimate interests, to secure and improve the Services; consent, for marketing email and non-essential cookies, which may be withdrawn at any time; and legal obligation, where retention is required.

In addition to the rights above, you may withdraw consent at any time and lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

Uni operates from California and our providers are predominantly located in the United States, so your information is transferred there. We rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards where required.

Cookies

We use cookies that are strictly necessary to authenticate you and secure your session, cookies that record your preferences, and first-party analytics indicating which features are used. We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.

Non-essential cookies may be managed through the banner presented on your first visit, and your choice may be changed subsequently. Blocking necessary cookies will prevent parts of the Services from functioning.

Security

We protect personal information using encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and database-level policies that isolate your data from that of other users. No system is entirely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Where a breach affects you, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required.

Changes to this policy

Revisions will be posted here with an updated effective date. Where a revision is material, we will require you to review it within the Services before continuing to use them, and may additionally notify you by email.
