The Young Writers Retreat is a two-week summer program designed to help high school students elevate their writing skills in preparation for college-level academic rigor. The mission of the program is to cultivate a genuine love for the craft of writing while providing practical tools for students to finish high school strongly and transition into higher education. Participants engage in hands-on workshops led by professional writers and creative experts to refine their technique and voice. Beyond the classroom, the program utilizes its Washington, D.C. location by taking students on Metro trips to visit active newsrooms and interview professional journalists. Students spend the two weeks producing well-crafted essays that can be used for college applications or academic portfolios. The unique value of the program lies in its blend of professional mentorship and real-world exposure to the media landscape of the nation’s capital.
