Accelerated College Education (ACE)
About
The Accelerated College Education (ACE) program at Stony Brook University allows high school students to earn college credit for courses they are already taking at their local high schools. The mission of the program is to provide students with a head start on their college careers by establishing an official university transcript before they even graduate high school. Unlike Advanced Placement (AP) courses that rely on a single high-stakes exam, ACE awards credit based on the student's performance throughout the entire course as evaluated by approved high school teachers. This dual-enrollment model offers a unique value by reducing future tuition costs and potentially lightening the course load for students once they transition to a university setting. Participating students gain the flexibility to explore more electives and extracurriculars during their undergraduate years because they have already satisfied various core requirements. Core activities include attending approved classes at partner schools, completing standard high school assignments and exams, and registering through the university's SOLAR system.
