Stony Brook Department of Biomedical Informatics
About
CSIRE is a nationally recognized six-week summer program designed to transition high school students from textbook learning to active scientific inquiry. The mission of the program is to immerse young scholars in real-world research environments where they contribute to original projects in fields such as machine learning, AI, biomedical informatics, and computer security. Students work directly with faculty and PhD mentors across various departments at Stony Brook University, including Computer Science and Applied Mathematics. Beyond lab work, the program offers a comprehensive experience through research talks, career seminars, and social events. The core value of the program lies in its ability to produce tangible results, as participants often continue their work to earn publication credits or recognition in prestigious competitions like the Regeneron Science Talent Search.
