National Japan Bowl
National Japan Bowl
About
The National Japan Bowl was established in 1992 to recognize and encourage high school students across the United States who have chosen Japanese as their foreign language. Its mission extends beyond basic linguistic skills, aiming to foster a deep understanding of Japan’s complex culture, history, geography, and current events. The competition provides a unique value by testing students on "real-world" knowledge that goes beyond the standard classroom curriculum, including etiquette, non-verbal communication, and contemporary social issues. Core activities involve several rounds of intensive questioning, cultural workshops, and opportunities for students to interact with Japanese diplomats and experts. It serves as a vital platform for reinforcing the efforts of Japanese language teachers and school districts nationwide. By challenging students in a national spotlight, the program incentivizes long-term dedication to Japanese studies and international relations.
