NextGen High School Internship Program
Emory School of Medicine
About
The NextGen High School Internship Program was established in 2022 with the mission of increasing enthusiasm for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) among high school students, particularly those from diverse experiential backgrounds. Its core value lies in offering a rare "dual-track" experience where interns gain exposure to both laboratory bench science and clinical patient care within a world-class medical genetics department. Students participate in formal lectures to build their foundational knowledge while rotating through different lab and clinical environments to gain practical, hands-on experience. The program aims to improve health outcomes for all community members by training a more diverse next generation of healthcare and science professionals. Beyond the intensive summer session, the program also facilitates ongoing activities and programs throughout the following school year to maintain student engagement.
