NIDDK Research Training Programs for High School and Undergraduate Students
National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK)
About
The NIDDK research training programs are designed to provide high school and undergraduate students with an immersive introduction to the world of biomedical and clinical research. The mission is to cultivate a diverse pipeline of future scientists and healthcare professionals by offering high-quality mentorship and practical experience in scientific discovery. Participants work in professional laboratory settings, focusing on critical health areas such as kidney, urologic, hematologic, and digestive diseases. Core activities include conducting experiments under the guidance of established investigators, attending scientific seminars, and participating in professional development workshops. This unique experience allows students to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application while exploring career paths in medicine and research. By the end of the program, many students have the opportunity to present their findings, fostering skills in scientific communication and networking within the global research community.
