Rice University
About
The Rice University Pre-College Law program is designed to introduce high school students to the fundamental mechanics of the legal system and its role in fostering an equitable society. Its mission is to help students understand how law influences daily life and can be leveraged as a tool for social change, specifically examining civil rights and the pursuit of justice. Participants explore diverse legal areas, including property ownership, employment rights, and educational access, through the lens of both equity and equality. The core activities involve watching video lectures by Rice faculty, interacting with legal mentors, and completing a comprehensive capstone project where students propose legal solutions to societal challenges. By the end of the course, students gain a deeper understanding of legal ethics and potential career paths in criminal, civil, and education law. This flexible, tech-forward experience provides a rigorous yet accessible introduction to legal studies for aspiring attorneys.
